  1. I wanted this bag, so I could easily store my camera gear and know it would be protected during travel. I went with the right bag. It isn’t too big, but it is big enough to easily store all of my gear. I haven’t gotten to put it to much use yet, but it seems like it will work wonders when I am flying, and traveling about.

This is a nice well designed bag. It is very appealing in design and looks. I like the bag for what it is but I purchased this bag to fit my d3000 and a small 10” netbook because of previous reviews stating it could hold a macbook air. The bag fits my camera, lens, and accessories very well but I can’t see how this bag really is made to hold any laptop much less a macbook air or 15”. I have looked all over for the laptop pocket that has been mentioned in some of the other reviews but i have yet to locate it. Overall the bag is great, I like it’s looks and i feel that it is well made. If you are looking for a bag that looks good that you can carry hiking, or on a family excursion “without looking like a camera man” this is the bag for you.

Anyone who knows where the mentioned computer pocket is in this bag please email me and let me know, i would really like to carry my netbook with me on some of my trips.

  3. Got this Kata Rucksack in a few days ago and have been trying it out. Needed it to carry my 7D with other accessories such as my zoomH4n, batteries, lenses, etc. The lower compartment would fit the camera w/stock lens (or 50mm prime as I have on it now) lens beside it (got the stock next to it), with three other pouches to spare. If you had a larger telephoto that would take up two, but I’ve got the two taken up with batteries and chargers, and the last one with mounts for holding the camera.

The top compartment is bigger than I expected, and is quite nice. Got the ZoomH4n, Wallet, Phone, USB voiceover mic I carry around with me (AT2020), video ipod, CF card reader, notebook, pens, with room to spare for a lightweight jacket if needed, lunch, or other stuff for the road…. all in there. My laptop compartment is empty right now, but soon to have a 13″ or 15″ macbook pro in it. I have heard from other people about them bending their macbooks, so this is something I’ll be very concerned and careful about.

Front three pockets… center one is great for cables and other misc items, other two, one’s got the rain cover in it, the other one is empty, but usually holds work badges, that sort of thing.

The bag sits comfortably on my shoulders, top handle is great. Weight is great on the bag, it sits upright with no problems either fully loaded or empty. I agree with others that the waist clip is useless, might just chop mine off. We’ll see. The water bottle mesh holder on the side is a tad small, but I was still able to fit my regular sized travel mug in it, it was just a little tight. Which was probably a good thing because it was held in really well. But it did seem a bit TOO tight.

So yeah, thats about it…. so far its been a great little bag. I’ll probably get some CF card holders and a filter holder to go in one of the front pockets.

    The end.

I was tired of lugging around my previous bag that didn’t seem to hold my digital canon camera, a wide angle lens and a portable flash. It was annoying to fight to get the camera in and out and to have to disassemble it each time. Plus I always had to put my video camera in another bag or leave it home.

When looking for a new bag I did not want something as large as a duffle bag or large backpack. Many of the in between models are built to swing around your shoulder and open sideways for access… that kind of scared me as my equipment is not cheap and I’d hate for anything to fall out!

This bag I like because it claimed to be able to fir 2 cameras, lenses, and flashes and still have room for other stuff. And, that seems to be true. I have my digital camera with all it’s gear ATTACHED, books, etc, along with my video camera all fitting easily into the bottom zippered area of the bag…the top area we use for our wallets and keys and for any items I normally keep in the kids diaper bag! This is a backpack style bag, but not nearly as bulky as you might expect for something that holds so much. I have turned 3 bags – camera bag, diaper bag, purse – into this one and still have room to spare in all compartments and it is not heavy to carry over one shoulder or both.

Quality is great, all fabric and zippers seem sturdy! The bottom area has adjustable padding for a custom fit and I am very happy with the way it opens and holds the stuff.

If I had to say one “con” about this bag I’d say maybe a few more choices of color would be nice :) … I know “black goes with everything”… but maybe a bright blue could be fun too :) !

I was comparing LowePro to Kata straight up. I’ve used Lowepro for a while and was hesitant to switch but man am I glad I did. The mechanism for camera storage on this bag is awesome. The bag looks like a a nice regular backpack, which I like a lot, because it’s a lot more discreet when you travel. As others have said it’s amazing how much you can fit in to the pack. The compartment on top is great. It slides on to your luggage, has a rain fly (you don’t know how necessary this is until you NEED it!) The quality of the bag is also great- sturdy zippers and material, the compartments in the camera compartment are velcro and moveable which is also great… i highly recommend this backpack!
